Erosion and Sediment Control Workshop 2008
February 29th, 2008
9 am - 1 pm
Hermantown Public Safety Bldg.
This workshop featured a review of the NPDES permit
and expected changes in the new permit, coming out late summer,
2008. It also featured a presentation by City of Hermantown staff
regarding their upcoming permanent stormwater management
ordinance. About 40 contractors, developers, engineers and other
professionals
attended this workshop.
Stormwater Tour 2007: On Friday June 29th,
2007, SWCD staff, with assistance from Minnesota's Lake Superior
Coastal Program, conducted another bus tour of innovative stormwater
Management Practices in the area.

featured presentations from local inspectors, contractors,
developers, and engineers to provide information and input on
stormwater permitting from a different point of view. The workshop
provided an opportunity for regulators to hear what permittees had to say about the NPDES Construction
Stormwater Permits and to answer questions.

Parking Lot and Sidewalk Maintenance Workshop
December 7, 2006
The Regional Stormwater Protection Team hosted a FREE 1/2 day training course
"Winter Parking Lot and Sidewalk Maintenance: Reducing
Environmental Impact of Chloride.” Attendees were introduced to
practices involved in reducing road salt/sand use throughout the
winter months to ultimately reduce the amount of chloride and
sediment impacts to receiving waters.

September 20, 2006
This session, In cooperation
with Minnesota Erosion Control Association, was designed for
those who install or inspect erosion and sediment control BMPs. An
optional Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector/Installer
Certification from the University of Minnesota was available.
Stormwater Tour 2006: On September 8th,
2006, Minnesota's Lake Superior Coastal Program and the SWCD
coordinated a 3-hour bus tour of innovative stormwater treatment
devices in the area. Over 40 people participated in the tour,
including attendees of the MN Waters '06 Conference, engineers and

Erosion and Sediment Control
Workshop for Contractors and Developers (01/20/05)

The SWCD, in partnership with the
Regional Stormwater Protection Team, hosted an
erosion and sediment control workshop in Hermantown Minnesota.
The workshop had 68 attendees, of which 69% were local contractors
and engineers. Almost 40% of attendees said this was their
first training on construction site erosion/sediment control.
Speakers included Jay Michels from the Minnesota Erosion Control
Association (MECA), local experts Todd Campbell (MnDOT) and Jim
Dexter (MPCA), and John Jereczek (WI DNR) provided some differences
for contractors working in Wisconsin.
