What's New?

Midway & Nemadji River Landowners: Money has become available for landowners to re-forest land within the Midway and Nemadji River Watersheds, two "priority watersheds" for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. This program will provide up to 75% of the costs of re-foresting land within these two watersheds. A 25% match is required from the landowner, but this match can be met by labor (help planting trees) or other means besides cash. View the flyer for more information or call our office at 218-723-4867.

Lake Associations: Summer is here and cabins are being swept-out and opened for those precious weekend get-aways. The SWCD will be happy to come speak at your next Lake Association meeting about shoreline management, shoreline restoration and/or what lakeshore owners can do to preserve the health of your beloved lakes. Call 218-723-4867 to schedule a presentation.

New "How-To" Videos for Lakeshore Owners: St. Louis County's Planning Department now has it's own YouTube webpage with several useful videos about topics relevant to lakeshore owners. The videos are 2 - 6 minutes in length and cover topics such as: how to find your lake's Ordinary High Water Level (for set-back purposes), techniques for managing stormwater on your property, and identifying wetlands. Click the link above to go directly to the page.

Stormwater Management Demonstration Projects: Irresistible Ink and Energy Plus, both in the Miller Creek Watershed, installed innovative stormwater management practices under the guidance of the SWCD in the summer of 2009. Click the link above for more information - installing such practices slows and filters polluted stormwater run-off, which helps to protect the water quality of Miller Creek.
