Bitternut Hickory is an overstory tree with broad and round crown with 7-9 leaflets per leaf stalk. It can be 50 to 80 feet tall with widths of 30 to 50 feet. It grows best on moist, rich soils and doesn’t tolerate drought or poor drainage. The tree can be great for open areas to produce shade along with wildlife food and habitat.
