Yellow birch is the longest-lived birch species, typically living for 150 years. It can grow to heights of 60 to 75 feet. The thin, oily paper bark is visually appealing throughout the year. It grows best in full sun but can tolerate some shade. It grows best in acidic soils, but can tolerate other conditions besides exposure to road salt exposure. Yellow birch often grows naturally on gentle river or lake slopes.
