Bur oak is a large tree that produces a lot of shade. It commonly grows to heights of 60-80 feet and can sprawl to widths of 60-80 feet. They grow best when planted in open areas which is where they are often naturally located. They can tolerate some drought and flooding but typically grow in well-drained, sandy or loamy soil.
