Sand Cherry typically grows in small clumps and produces multiple short stems, each no more than about waist high. Leaves are silvery green and it reaches a height and width of 6 feet. It produces a profusion of white flowers in spring, followed by purple to black, edible fruit. In ideal conditions the
plant will grow from 12 to 18 inches a year. Prefers full sun and can tolerate hot, dry sites. Native habitats include dunes, sand barrens, bedrock outcrops, and openings in pine forests.
